Department of Mathematics and Statistics, James Madison University

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for two or more tenure track positions in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics starting August 2012. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in one of the mathematical sciences. Compatibility of research with current department needs and interests will be a factor. Applications from those with research interests in Mathematical Biology are especially encouraged for one of the positions. Candidates should have demonstrated success in teaching and potential in scholarship. Interest in participation in the department's active undergraduate research program is a priority. Positions are also available in mathematics education as announced elsewhere on this site.

James Madison University is a comprehensive, coeducational state university, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Enrollment is approximately 18000. The primary focus of the department is undergraduate teaching, with an active research program in that context. The department includes very active groups in statistics, applied and computational mathematics, pure mathematics, and mathematics education. In addition to coursework for majors, the department provides mathematics and statistics instruction for engineering, natural and social science, and a substantial program for future elementary and middle grades teachers.
