10/30/12: Important Notice to CodeRED Clients ? Emergency ...

10/30/12 UPDATE: Emergency Communications Network (ECN) reminds you that we are here to help. Don?t hesitate to call us at 866-939-0911 with any questions or concerns. Our highly skilled Operations Team is standing by to provide you live assistance.

To maximize the reach of your messages, the ECN Operations Team would like to remind you of the following:

1. Launch to the EMERGENCY database ? All of your emergency related calls should be sent to the EMERGENCY database. Remember ? citizens can opt-out of receiving general notifications and you need to reach as many people as possible with these critical messages.

2. Include date and time on every message ? It is imperative that you include the date and time of the call during every launch to establish a time reference. With more than 7.5 million Americans without power, citizens are conserving electricity. They may not receive your messages until they power on their devices to check for emergency alerts.

3. Encourage cell phone opt-in ? Cell phones may be the only way citizens are capable of receiving emergency messages right now due to widespread power outages. Encourage your community to visit the Community Notification Enrollment (CNE) page to opt-in their mobile telephone numbers.? Remember ? all information entered in the CNE page is immediately added to the CodeRED database.

4. Shelter updates ? We encourage you to use the system to provide shelter updates. Be specific about the hours and locations of each shelter, and where to access more information if shelter details are too lengthy to include in the call. Thirty second messages work best during emergency situations.
